Break Time Scholarship helps ākonga complete their studies
16/09/24
Congratulations to the winners of the Break Time Nursing scholarship for Semester 2, 2024 -- final year students Keriana Walker-Whakahoehoe (Bachelor of Nursing - Māori) and Maria Seuao (Bachelor of Nursing - Pacific).
Keriana and Maria both receive a one-off payment of $250, thanks to the support of Sandhya and Devyash Patel of Break Time on Manukau Campus, who are funding the scholarship for two students each semester for the next three years.
Keriana and Maria both demonstrated academic excellence, commitment to learning and pursuing a career in their chosen industry, along with initiative in their personal life and study.
Past scholarship recipient Sisilia Tauataina, who has just completed her Bachelor of Nursing Pacific, says she couldn’t have completed her studies without the assistance of the scholarship.
“Without the support of the Break Time scholarship, I genuinely believe that I couldn’t have completed my hours needed for placement. The funding covered my transportation costs, which meant that I was able to get to and from my placement.
“As a result, I was able to complete my studies, and I look forward to graduating next year. I genuinely think that my academic success was a result of the kindness and support I received from others. I’m very appreciative and feel privileged to have been given this opportunity during my studies.”
Julie Prentice, Head of MIT External Engagement, Marketing and Trade Academy, adds:
“Thank you once again to Break Time on Manukau campus for their generosity and foresight in providing this scholarship.
“Assistance with the costs incurred during clinical placements makes a huge difference to our ākonga, and your support is invaluable.”
The scholarship, which assists with expenses incurred during clinical placements, is designed to support final year MIT Nursing ākonga in the following programmes:
- Bachelor of Nursing (Level 7)
- Bachelor of Nursing Māori (Level 7)
- Bachelor of Nursing Pacific (Level 7)
Both scholarship recipients are also supported by Te Ara Oranga, a health workforce development service to support Māori and Pasifika students throughout their journey, from study to employment.
