Pacific Community Forums are back!
02/09/24
Recently, the Pacific Development Office (PDO) hosted its first face-to-face forum since 2022 – a very insightful and successful event!
The purpose of the forums is to bring in external community networks and stakeholders and host a neutral platform for them to present their offerings to our MIT ākonga, kaimahi and the surrounding community.
This week’s Pacific Community Forum played host to five presenters from four organisations who provide assistance in their specialised fields. Angela Calvert from Connected presented on connecting people to training, jobs, as well as CV writing. Seini Cocker from QES talked about Tupu Aotearoa and their available wrap-around holistic supports to get Pasifika into jobs and training in a sustainable way. Albert Scott from Foundation North discussed community funding, eligibility, the process and how you can apply. And Eimaan and Mele from Pacific Toast Masters spoke about the benefits of Toastmasters and how it increases self-confidence, helps to develop leadership skills and assists with public speaking.
It was a very insightful evening, with first-time attendees already pre-registering for next months’ forum. For more information on upcoming Pasifika Forums, please email: pacificforums@manukau.ac.nz
