International student support services
Studying in a new country is an exciting and challenging time. To ensure you are well supported from the moment you enrol through to completing your studies, Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) has a dedicated international support team in place to help you to adjust and make the most of your experience.
The international support team is the first point of contact for all international students regarding enrolment and study-support related matters both on and off-campus. The team also handles enquiries from prospective international students.
Services we offer and can assist with include:
- Enrolment processes and application
- Student visa and insurance
- Homestay accommodation
- Transition support, advocacy and pastoral care
- Student mentors
- Health and counselling
- Library and learning services
- Chaplaincy and religious support
- Career and employment solutions.
The support team has a 24-hour emergency line for all international students enrolled at MIT. The emergency freephone contact number is 0800 648 2273.
International student orientation
All students at MIT are required to attend international orientation during their first semester.
Students can meet our support staff during orientation. Orientation takes place at the beginning of each semester, one week before your study begins.
Pastoral care for international students
As an international student in New Zealand, you have the right to expect a certain level of pastoral care and support. MIT has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by Ministry of Education. Copies of the code are available on request from MIT or from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority website.
