Tools for study
We have a number of tools to help you in your study journey – both on and off campus.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Depending on your programme, you may find that you need your own laptop that meets our BYOD guidelines.
If you already own a laptop we recommend checking that it is suitable. If you do need to purchase a new one, please check that the device you’re planning to get meets our BYOD guidelines.
Online and interactive resources
We’ve put together a few online courses of various types and lengths as tasters to study. These aren’t part of a programme but we hope you find them interesting. Check them out here
FREE Wifi on campus
MIT students can connect to the MIT-Wireless network to access the internet from your personal devices. All you need to connect is your correct username and password.
FREE Microsoft Office 365
MIT is now providing Microsoft Office to every student free of charge. This means the latest version of the full Office productivity suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more available for offline and online use to best prepare you for class. Find more information here.
Getting connected - Setting up your password for email, Canvas
You can find your MIT User name on your Statement of Fees or by contacting the Ask Me! Student Services team. When you have this, you can get yourself set up for MIT email, Canvas, CES online and the learner portal. Visit the onboarding webpage and follow the instructions to get connected.
Student email
When you are enrolled you are given a MIT student email address. You use this to log into our Learning Management System (Canvas), the Learner Portal and to enrol with CES Online. Visit the onboarding webpage and follow the instructions to set up your student email.
Canvas
Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) at MIT. Most programmes use Canvas to access learning and teaching resources for your courses.
Learner Portal
Learner Portal is where you can see your timetable, confirmed results and pay your fees by credit or debit card. Visit the onboarding webpage and follow the instructions to access the Learner Portal.
