Biography

Kate brings with her a vast amount of primary experience, having worked most recently at schools in South Auckland, in teacher mentor and leader roles with a keen interest in PE/Health and Mathematics. Her most recent role has been in tertiary education with EIT in the Hawkes Bay on the Bachelor of Teaching. With a Master of Contemporary Education, Kate brings with her a wealth of recent up-to-date pedagogical knowledge and experience that she is keen to share with candidate teachers.

Originally from England, Kate has called beautiful Aotearoa home for the last seven years. She is a long-distance runner, finds peace and comfort in her faith, and volunteers for a charity called Chained Dog Rehoming and Rehabilitation as a foster mum. She lives with her partner Lesley and their dog Joey in South Auckland. Speaking to her two nieces in England via video call is a big highlight of her week.

Why I love MIT

I trained to be a kaiako in England, but I discovered and honed my skills, becoming the kaiako I am today, as a result of the kura and experiences I have gained while in South Auckland. I am excited to give back to the community that gave so much to me.
