Biography

Jacinda has been doing hairdressing for over 15 years and has run a salon for nearly 10 years. She absolutely loves every aspect of teaching from learning new tips and techniques to teaching new hairdressers in training.

Jacinda undertook her first years’ training at the Cut Above Academy and then went straight into a salon (Schnips). She then went on to finish her certified training through correspondence at both Winters School of Hairdressing and MIT.

Jacinda stayed at Schnips for about 6 years in which time she underwent a significant amount of training and won a free trip to the Sydney Hair Expo, moved from being a junior to senior stylist, and got involved in many hair competitions, fashion shows and education nights along the way.

Once she qualified as a hairdresser, Jacinda also went and did a make up certificate through the Makeup School and trained in tape-in hair extensions. After working at a couple of salons in South Auckland she had two amazing kids and decided to go into business with her parents to ran a salon in Papakura. She built it up, trained her staff who are now qualified hairdressers, went on a few trips to Sydney Hair Expo, and has a very loyal strong clientele.

After nearly 10 years Jacinda decided to sell her salon to pursue her other passion in hairdressing, education. Jacinda has been working at MIT now since October 2020. She still feels quite new to MIT - however has been teaching her staff and other staff that she has worked with for the past 12 years and found it extremely rewarding seeing them progress and become amazing hairdressers. Jacinda also still works as a stylist at her old salon so she has the best of both worlds and can continue doing hair for her loyal clients.

Why I love MIT

I love seeing the students grow throughout the courses, having a bit of fun and creativity in class, and having a very strong team that I work with for support. MIT is a very supportive, flexible and an understanding place to work, and I will always do my best to support students learning and help them succeed to the best of their capabilities.
