Who should attend
Seafarers who are required to take charge of a survival craft or a rescue boat (other than fast rescue boats) in emergency situations
Those seafarers wishing to renew their Proficiency in Survival Craft other than fast rescue boats certificate of proficiency but do not have sufficient sea service to meet the criteria for the Refresher course (attendance of the PISC course will include refresher PST).
Course highlights
This course prepares students for the launching and handling of survival craft through theoretical learning and a series of practical exercises. Students will jump in the water, board a life raft and familiarise themselves with the layout and interior of an actual lifeboat.
They will demonstrate their competence and knowledge of launching a lifeboat, the marshalling of life rafts and conducting searches for persons in the water in a state of the art Lifeboat Simulator*.
This course meets the requirements of STCW Section A-VI/2.
*Lifeboat simulator sessions are delivered at the City campus, 2 Commerce Street, Auckland

Entry requirements
Pre-requisites:
- Must demonstrate ability to swim and tread water. Must hold 12 months seatime.
Please supply the following prior to attendance:
- Swim Form
- Medical Fitness Certificate.
Students who have previously attended PISC with NZ Maritime School ONLY are exempt from Day 1.
You must however notify Reception if you plan to attend from Day 2 onwards in the event of any scheduling changes.
