MIT's School of Hospitality recently hosted some of the country's top chefs as they competed for the prestigious title of Chef of the Year. Jacob Aomarere Poole, Luaupouomalo Uliefu, and Sandesh Sunar participated in a duathlon-style event, divided into two challenging stages. First, the chefs were tasked with preparing a three-course meal within 2 hours and 15 minutes, adhering to Worldchefs' competition guidelines. In the second stage, they had to create a main course using ingredients from a mystery box.

As the clock ticked down, the three talented chefs produced an array of dishes, from onion tarts to mouth-watering lamb curries, filling the kitchen with enticing sights and aromas.

Craig Lucas, interim head of the School of Hospitality at MIT, led the judging panel and was joined by kaimahi who came to watch the competition. Not only were they treated to the masterchefs in action, but they also had a chance to sample the dishes.

Lucas said the event was a great way to support budding talent in the industry.

He said, "It was great to bring the NZ Chef of the year competition to MIT, for our students and staff to see top-class New Zealand chef in action."
